About

What is the Peninsular Divide?

The Peninsular Divide is an ultra-endurance cycling race that pushes the limits of human resilience and self-sufficiency. Spanning 1,500 km from Pengerang, Johor, to Wang Kelian, Perlis, the route features over 20,000 meters of elevation and a mix of tarmac, gravel, and remote backroads. Designed for those who crave the ultimate test of endurance, navigation, and survival, the Peninsular Divide is one of the toughest cycling challenges in Asia.

Why We Created the Peninsular Divide

Ultra-endurance cycling is more than just a race—it’s an expedition, a test of mental and physical strength. The Peninsular Divide was born out of a desire to create a truly demanding and unfiltered adventure, one that showcases Malaysia’s raw beauty while setting a new benchmark for self-supported racing in the region.

Unlike traditional stage races, the Peninsular Divide embraces the unsupported, solo nature of endurance cycling. Riders must rely entirely on themselves, carrying their own gear, planning their own resupply, and navigating their way through some of Malaysia’s most remote and challenging landscapes.

Our goal is simple: To create a legendary race that will be spoken about in ultra-cycling circles for years to come.

Our Mission & Vision

  • Mission: To challenge cyclists with one of the toughest ultra-endurance races in Asia, promoting adventure, self-sufficiency, and the pure spirit of endurance racing.
  • Vision: To establish the Peninsular Divide as a world-class ultra-cycling event, attracting elite and amateur cyclists from around the globe while fostering a deeper appreciation for Malaysia’s landscapes and cycling culture.

The First Edition: 2024 – Testing the Limits

The Peninsular Divide was first tested in 2024, when a small group of dedicated endurance cyclists set out to ride the full length of Peninsular Malaysia on an unproven, untested route. The challenge was monumental—unknown terrain, unpredictable weather, and a mix of road conditions that ranged from smooth asphalt to brutal gravel and jungle tracks.

Key Moments from 2024

  • 26 cyclists from 8 countries took part in the test ride, including experienced ultra-racers from Malaysia, Indonesia, New Zealand, Germany, Singapore, Iceland, Poland, and Kyrgyzstan.
  • Riders battled through scorching heat, relentless rain, and grueling mountain passes, with some stretches featuring over 2,000 meters of climbing in a single day.
  • The gravel sections proved to be one of the biggest challenges, forcing riders to carefully manage their energy and equipment.
  • A number of riders had to scratch due to mechanical failures, extreme fatigue, and the sheer brutality of the course, reinforcing the difficulty of the race.
  • The final finishers crossed into Wang Kelian with a mix of triumph and exhaustion, proving that the Peninsular Divide is a true test of endurance.

The 2024 test edition was a crucial milestone, allowing us to refine the course, assess rider feedback, and solidify the Peninsular Divide as a must-attempt challenge for ultra-endurance cyclists.
